Section 144 was introduced in Punjab due to concerns about COVID-19
LAHORE: The Punjab government introduced Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) on Sunday, which bans public gatherings due to the increasing number of new cases of coronavirus across the country.
According to Section 144 CrPc, the state can issue temporary orders in an emergency.
The move was announced by the additional chief secretary Momin Aga.
According to Article 144, the provincial government banned public gatherings, including weddings, religious gatherings, festivals and sporting events. The government also closed all educational institutions, including madrassas, and postponed exams. It is also prohibited to store and speculate with hand disinfectants.
